Joseph Queenan, M.D.

SOMERS POINT – Shore Physicians Group has announced that Penn Medicine Neurosurgeon Joseph Queenan, MD, has joined its Division of Neurosurgery, a Penn Medicine Surgery Affiliate, in Somers Point. Dr. Queenan joins SPG Neurosurgeon Dr. Francis Kralick and is now seeing patients.

A native of South Philadelphia, Dr. Queenan received his undergraduate degree from LaSalle University and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1991. He completed residencies in neurosurgery at Case Western Reserve University and Mt. Sinai Hospital, and he is fellowship-trained in pediatric neurosurgery and Board Certified by the American Board of Neurologic Surgery.

Dr. Queenan comes to Shore Physicians Group after serving for many years as an attending neurosurgeon for pediatric and adult patients alike, including Temple University Hospital, Fox Chase Cancer Center, and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

He previously served as chief of neurosurgery and attending neurosurgeon at Hahnemann University Hospital, as well as chief of neurosurgery at AI duPont Children’s Hospital. He has served in numerous leadership and resident supervisory roles at Hahnemann University Hospital/Drexel University and the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, where he was professor of neurosurgery working on three clinical trials to help further advance the field of neurosurgery.

As a neurosurgeon, Dr. Queenan is highly skilled in treating spine and brain disorders using microsurgical techniques. These procedures include cranial decompression, shunts for hydrocephalus and other cerebrospinal fluid anomalies and brain tumor surgery. Additionally, cares for patients suffering from back pain caused by degenerative, traumatic or congenital spinal disorders, offering patients a carefully planned path toward healing using the least-invasive methods possible.

When it comes to Dr. Queenan’s philosophy of care, he stresses how important it is for a physician and patient to have mutual respect for one another.

“My philosophy is to make sure my patients have as firm an understanding as possible about their condition and treatment options,” he said in a release. “I want them to fully understand the options available to treat their condition so that they can be fully invested in the decision making process when it comes to selecting a treatment. Patients can expect honesty from me and a true assessment of their condition. I will work with them to help solve their problem, and in the case where it can’t be fully resolved, at least to improve their quality of life while they deal with their condition. Patients often say my bedside manner puts them at ease. Being accessible and approachable is important to me.”

Dr. Queenan will be on staff at Shore Medical Center in Somers Point and will see patients at 649 Shore Rd., Somers Point.
