Provided/Director of Rehabilitation Nicole Goodson, and Occupational Therapist Alyssa Carmy volunteer their time to plant the new pollinator garden at Seashore Gardens Living Center.

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP – Community volunteers, residents and staff are helping to create a new pollinator and monarch butterfly habitat this summer at Seashore Gardens Living Center.

The center has been awarded a grant from the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation to transform four outdoor areas, including the Sensory Trail and Healing Garden, for residents with Alzheimer’s and dementia. The Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation is an international nonprofit organization that protects the natural world through the conservation of invertebrates and their habitats.

Occupational Therapist Alyssa Carmy and resident Pam water the plants.

In addition, Seashore Gardens is in the process of transforming the courtyard outside of the rehabilitation space into a garden with raised beds at wheelchair height, and bridges with rails. This will enable occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy to be conducted outdoors.

Volunteers of all ages are welcome to help plant. If you are interested in taking part, please contact Sharon D’Angio at dangios@seashoregardens.org or 609-404-4848 to schedule a time to help.

Volunteers of all ages participate in the planting project.
