LONGPORT – Residents of the Downbeach communities are strongly encouraged to attend this year’s Hurricane Preparedness Community Meeting to learn more about how to protect their lives and property in the event of a severe weather event.

Longport, Margate and Ventnor residents are invited to attend the meeting 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 11 at Longport Borough Hall, 2305 Atlantic Ave.

The event includes representatives from various public safety organizations and utility companies who will share important information about how to be prepared for hurricane season, including local Offices of Emergency Management, South Jersey Gas, Atlantic City Electric and Comcast. The presentation also includes information about how to protect family members and pets.

A weather outlook will be presented by retired National Weather Service Forecaster Jim Eberwine and Meteorologist Joe Martucci.

The program will also provide an update on the South Jersey area’s Coastal Resiliency Plan, the Atlantic County Multi-jurisdictional National Hazard Mitigatation Plan and information about the National Flood Insurance Program’s Community Rating System.
