NORTHFIELD – In an effort to help families in trying economic times, Beth Israel congregation is collecting new school supplies for students of all ages. The items will be donated to the New Hope Baptist Church in Atlantic City for distribution to families in need. The goal is to help each child start the school year with the supplies that they need to be successful.

Supplies needed include pens, pencils, mechanical pencils, erasers, colored pencils, crayons, highlighters, pencil cases, pencil sharpeners, soft lunch boxes, Book Sox, composition books, notebook dividers, index cards, scissors, markers, sticky notes, correction tape, hand sanitizer, one-inch binders, glue sticks, calculators, rulers, folders and book bags.

The school supply drive is the latest effort in the partnership between Beth Israel and the New Hope Baptist Church. Past programs have included the annual service celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and other significant events in the lives of each congregation.

The school supply drive runs through Aug. 26. Supplies may be dropped off at Beth Israel, 2501 Shore Rd., Northfield, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m Monday through Thursday.
