The Arc will celebrate Direct Support Professionals Week, starting Sept. 11.

Direct Support Professional Recognition Week is September 11-17

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – The Arc of Atlantic County is recognizing the important role direct support professionals play in empowering individuals to reach their full potential during Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, Sept. 11-17.

The 200 professionals who work at The Arc of Atlantic County are the heart of the organization’s mission. From help with daily activities and life skills, to vocational and independent living supports, dedicated and compassionate staff are cheerleaders, job coaches, cooks, drivers, advocates, and sometimes, family, to the individuals they support.

“Their commitment to helping others live full and happy lives is building an inclusive community where everyone feels valuable and represented,” The Arc CEO Scott Hennis said in a release. “This week, and every day, we are grateful to our direct support professionals and for the life changing support they provide to the individuals and families we serve.”

The week-long celebration will include daily prize giveaways from local businesses, including WOLF Fitness, The Crab Trap, TacocaT Margate, Tony Beef, Mike’s Pasta House, Johnson’s Popcorn, Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa Somers Point and more. The community is encouraged to share photos, videos and expressions of gratitude by posting to a virtual recognition board. A link to the Kudoboard can be found at www.thearcatlantic.org or www.facebook.com/thearcatlantic.

The celebration will culminate with The Arc’s Day Habilitation program, 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16 at 6550 Delilah Road, Suite 101.  Deputy Commissioner for Aging and Disability Services Kaylee McGuire; Assistant Commissioner of the Division of Developmental Disabilities Jonathan Seifried; and Executive Director of The Arc of New Jersey Thomas Baffuto will present a Proclamation in recognition of the staff’s work. Guests will have the opportunity to tour the facilities and program, engage with participants and speak with the professionals about their work.
