June Nahas offers a treat to Buzz Lightyear.
VENTNOR – The weather Saturday was perfect for a fun day in the park.
Ventnor Special Events held its first-ever Halloween Festival in the beachfront park on Newport Avenue. The festival replaced the annual Spring Block Party, which had to be cancelled because of inclement weather.
Hundreds of families gathered to Trick or Treat, play games, enjoy some great street food and listen to music. There was face painting, remote control car racing, and blow-up games, and the Ventnor City Farmers Market Old Coots were there to give out free advice to anyone who asked.
The city revived its Halloween Parade on the boardwalk at Suffolk Avenue. Although there were few participants, the parade stepped off with the Jersey Devils Pipe Band from Waretown in the lead. They were followed by troops of Daiseys, Brownies and Girl Scouts from Northfield. Children and their parents, dressed up in their Halloween costumes, marched to the festival being held at Newport Avenue.
June Nahas carried a basket of candy to the boardwalk to give out to children walking in the parade.
“I was a member of the Ventnor Heights Mothers Club and we did this all the time,” she said. “I’m so glad they are getting this back in the works again. Anytime the community can participate in things like this, it’s a good.”
The community brought unwrapped toys to the event for the Atlantic County Toys for Kids Program to distribute during the holidays.
