LONGPORT – Despite the forecast for bad weather on Friday, American Legion Post 469 is sticking with its original plan for the borough’s annual Veterans Day service.

The service will be held at 11 a.m. on the 11th day of the 11th month at Thomas B. Reed Park located the foot of the Longport bridge

Commander Larry Pacentrilli said he has been in touch with Meteorologist Joe Martucci about the weather forecast, which calls for a 50% possibility of brief showers between 11 a.m. and noon.

“If it does rain, it should be easily handled with umbrellas,” Pacentrilli said. “Because families have been planning for some time to have memorial pavers installed in our memorial walkway to honor family members who are veterans, and because the rendering of honors with a rifle salute would make it much more meaningful for those families, we’re going to take our chances and stick with the original plan of holding our ceremony outdoors at 11 a.m.”

The ceremony will last about 30 minutes, followed by a light lunch at Borough Hall.
