Volunteer Colin Fuentes of Ventnor collects toys for distribution by the Atlantic County Toys for Kids program.

MARGATE – Ventnor, Margate and Longport public safety organizations will unite for Margate’s seventh annual Holiday Toy Drive, 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 16 at the Sigmund Rimm Recreation Complex.

The event is a spectacle to behold as Downbeach families flock to the field to make the holidays bright for children in need. Those who attend bring armfuls of unwrapped toys for the Atlantic County Toys for Kids Program, which distributes the toys during the holidays and throughout the year when the need for toys arises.

The event, which is free and open to all, includes holiday lights, train rides around the park, live music, games, hot chocolate and food offerings, crafts and more. Children can line up to take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The event is organized by Margate Police Officer Erin Borelli and a contingent of Santa’s elves.

The Margate Police Department is also collecting new or gently used, large or extra-large winter coats, hats, gloves and hygiene products to be distributed on Christmas morning, along with a hot meal, through the City Lights Christmas outreach program in Atlantic City and Pleasantville. Items can be dropped off at the Police Station, 111 N. Decatur Ave., until Dec. 20.
