After reflecting on what happened during 2022, Downbeach towns have lots to look forward to in 2023.

Longport Mayor Nicholas Russo has formed a committee to plan and organize the borough’s 125th anniversary celebration. The committee is planning two events commemorating the incorporation of the borough in 1898.

Russo said the committee is planning to hold a smaller special event on the borough’s anniversary of incorporation March 7, 2023, followed by a larger event that will include a town picnic on July 22. Fireworks will cap the celebration.

Margate is looking forward to an election to select members of the Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, May 9, 2023, with swearing-in and election of the mayor at noon on May 16.

Candidates interested in running in the election for a seat on the non-partisan board have until March 6, 2023 to file a petition with the City Clerk.

Also in Margate, the Save Lucy Committee is working to obtain the permits to demolish the old gift shop at the base of the National Historic Landmark and replace it with a state of the art gift shop building. According to Executive Director Richard Helfant, the work is slated to begin after the 2023 summer season, and hopefully be completed by Memorial Day 2024.

Ventnor City Block Party 2021.

There’s so much happening in Ventnor next year that Mayor Beth Holtzman said she could not single out one particular event or happening.

“The entire year of 2023 will be spectacular with all our events,” she said.

If her colleague Commissioner Tim Kriebel gets his wishes for the new year answered, by summer there will be a brand new bandstand built at the Newport Avenue beachfront park where residents and visitors can enjoy the free summer concert series. Also, on his agenda is completing a new pier master hut on the Ventnor Fishing Pier, which will free up space in the restroom building for a concession stand that will be selling snacks and coffee to early morning fishers and daytime boardwalk strollers.

Pickleball will be back in a big way with the two-day Funky Pickle celebration, July 28-29, 2023. Sunday, July 30 was reserved as a raindate. The Downbeach Seafood Festival will be back Sept. 9-10, 2023. And the lineup for the Summer Beach Jam series Saturday evenings at Newport Avenue beach and Sunsets at Ski Beach Wednesday evenings at the bayside park on Dorset Avenue has already been finalized.

Hopefully, the Ventnor City Block Party will go off without a hitch on Saturday, May 6, 2023. And new in the lineup for Ventnor Special Events this year is an Independence Day Celebration planned for July 3, with a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m.
