Provided/Volunteer Services Supervisor Vanessa Smith showcases canned soups in the JFS Food Pantry. Canned soups will be collected through Feb. 17 at JFS, 607 N. Jerome Ave.

MARGATE – While millions of sports enthusiasts will watch the 57th annual “big game” on television, Jewish Family Service of Atlantic & Cape May Counties will host its annual “Soup’er Bowl.”

To help combat hunger, JFS will hold a campaign to collect hundreds of canned soups to assure community members have a hot and hearty meal during the cold winter months.

“The past two years, JFS’ ‘Soup’er Bowl collection has garnered more than 650 cans of soup to stock the pantry shelves to help people in need in the community,” JFS CEO Andrea Steinberg said. “We are grateful to the residents, businesses, and other supporters who donate nutritious and hearty soups which will help reduce food insecurity across the region.”

In 2022, the JFS Food Pantry distributed nearly 60,000 pounds of food to more than 8,825 Atlantic County residents, including 3,220 children. In addition, JFS provided 2,652 Kosher Meals on Wheels to older adults and homebound seniors. With the need for food and other basic necessities continuing to escalate, JFS has become a go-to pantry for local residents.

The ‘Soup’er Bowl collection encourages donors to drop-off hearty and nutritional soups. Cans with pop-tops are appreciated and make for easy opening, especially for homeless individuals with limited access to can openers.

Donations for the ‘Soup’er Bowl will be accepted now through Feb. 17 at JFS, 607 N. Jerome Ave.. The agency is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

For people in need of food, the pantry is open to Atlantic County residents 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday..
