VENTNOR – The Board of Commissioners Feb. 23 approved three-year contracts with the heads of the Police, Fire and Public Works departments.

Police Chief Joseph Fussner, Fire Chief Michael Cahill and Public Works Superintendent Ed Stinson received contracts that will keep them onboard until the end of 2025. As administrative leaders of their respective departments they will work 40 hours a week but will be on call 24-7 to respond to emergencies. They will receive 14 paid holidays, three personal days and three bereavement days, and each will be provided with a vehicle for their work and personal use. Although they are considered exempt from receiving overtime pay, they can receive up to 1.5 times their regular hourly rate in the event of a natural disaster that requires them to work longer than normal hours.

Cahill’s base salary in 2023 is $173,492 and he is entitled to 25 vacation days per year, of which 50 days can be banked for retirement. Stinson’s base salary is $172,278 and he is entitled to 25 vacation days, with up to 50 days banked. Fussner’s salary is $158,705 plus 10% longevity pay. He is entitled to 70 vacation days.

The contracts are effective Jan. 1.

Also at the meeting, the board approved salary increases for other non-union and part-time employees. The annual increases for salaried employees range from $500 to $5,000 a year, and hourly rate increases range from 80 cents to $2.48 per hour.
