Atlantic County residents 16-24 years old can earn $15 an hour while gaining valuable knowledge and work experience by participating in the Summer Youth Employment Program.

“This program has been very successful in providing youth with a chance to explore potential career paths and earn money and experience while doing so,” Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson said in a release. “It has also been beneficial to local employers that are dealing with staffing shortages.”

Sponsored by the Atlantic County Workforce Development Board, the program matches youths with area employers for eight-week paid internships between May 1 and Aug. 31. A wide variety of job placement opportunities is available with government agencies, local businesses and non-profit organizations.

According to Executive Director Francis Kuhn, the WDB hopes to place 200 youths in positions for 25 hours per week with the potential for each to earn $3,000. Funding for this program is provided through the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce.
