Provided/Workers will be deconstructing the scaffolding around Longport’s smiley-faced water tower. Painting the interior and exterior of the water tower is expected to be completed by April 30.

LONGPORT – Renovation of the iconic smiley-faced water tower that hovers above the borough is nearing completion. The borough issued a notice to residents April 4 that the painting of the interior of the tank and the exterior of the tower is complete.

Residents will notice that the tarp protecting nearby properties has been removed and scaffolding around the tower will be deconstructed.

While the work continues, residents may experience fluctuations in their water pressure and possible discoloration of the water.

Notify the Longport Public Works Department at 609-823-2731, ext. 114 during regular business hours if there are any water emergencies. After hours, call 609-822-2141.

Don’t worry, be happy. One of the last items to complete the project is returning the smiley face to the tower, along with the slogan, “Longport, The Best Port.”

Officials said all the work will be completed on schedule by April 30, just in time to welcome visitors to the borough for the summer season.
