The Sustainable Jersey Atlantic-Cape May Hub, in conjunction with Upper Cape Sustainability, is hosting a Lead Virtual Workshop noon Friday, April 14 to discuss a new law that took effect in July 2022 that affects pre-1978 rental properties.

Although lead paint and lead in gasoline has been banned, it is still a prevalent problem at many properties built before 1978. Lead is still found in a variety of products, mostly from overseas, which presents a danger to children, especially in lower income families.

New Jersey’s Lead Safe Certification program requires municipalities to perform lead based paint inspections via visual and or dust wipes at all nonexempt rental properties when they turn over. The law also requires lead based paint hazard education be provided to residents and funding may be available through New Jerseys Lead Hazard Control Assistance Act.

Any actions taken by local green teams to educate the public about the hazards of lead, may qualify for points toward Sustainable Jersey certification or recertification.

The Zoom webinar is free for green team members and residents but pre-registration is required. To register, visit https://bit.ly/LeadonLead14AprilWorkshop
