Margate City Beach Patrol

MARGATE – The Margate Beach Patrol will be holding lifeguard tryouts 8:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10 at Beach Patrol Headquarters on Decatur Avenue. The tryouts will provide the Beach Patrol with a prioritized list of candidates for job openings this summer.

Candidates must be 16 years of age by Aug. 1, 2023 to participate in tryouts, submit an application and provide a doctor’s note. A waiver and release of liability must be provided to the city in order to try out.

Applications can be downloaded from the municipal website at https://www.margate-nj.com/margate-city-beach-patrol and turned in at City Hall or emailed to Beach Patrol Chief Greg Smallwood at gsmallwood@margate-nj.com no later than 3 p.m. Friday, June 9.

The tryout includes:

  • 1-mile run in less than 7:30:00 to continue to the next event
  • ¼-mile row (conditions permitting)
  • Interview
  • ¼-mile swim
  • Surf dash

A prioritized list of candidates will be posted at Beach Patrol Headquarters by Monday, June 12.
