As hurricane season quickly approaches, it’s important to know how to prepare and protect family, pets and property in the event of an emergency. Two Downbeach towns will be hosting public information meetings to provide information about how to properly prepare and heed the advice of professionals.

Longport will be holding its annual Storm Readiness program 2 p.m. Friday, May 12 at Longport Borough Hall, 2305 Atlantic Ave. Emergency Management Coordinator Bruce Funk with share different techniques and strategies to be prepared for the summer storm season. The presentation includes a lecture and question and answer period.

Ventnor will present its annual Downbeach Community Meeting in a new location this year. The program will be presented 6-9 p.m. Saturday, June 10 during the Summer Beach Jam at the gazebo located at S. Newport Avenue and the beach.

Along with a musical beach jam concert, local emergency management officials, insurance representatives and utility company representatives will provide information about storm preparations.

Presenters include all three Downbeach communities, Atlantic County Office of Emergency Management, South Jersey Gas, Atlantic City Electric, Comcast and a Ventnor-based veterinarian.

National Weather Service forecaster and Absecon OEM Coordinator Jim Eberwine and Meteorologist Joe Martucci will present a summer weather outlook.

Also to be updated is the Coastal Resiliency Plan, Atlantic County Multi-jurisdictional National Hazard Mitgation Plan, and the National Flood Insurance Program.
