VENTNOR – Thursday was an exciting day for two Ventnor City Police officers.

Patrol Office Blake Ballin and Sgt. Marc Franco Jr. responded to a 3:55 p.m. ambulance call May 11 for a female in labor at a Harvard Avenue home. Upon arrival, the officers discovered a 34-year-old woman in active labor.

Ballin and Franco immediately assisted with the delivery of a baby boy and the baby’s cries came to the delight of both the officers and the proud mother, who did an amazing job, they said.

“It’s not everyday our officers get to be a part of such a special moment,” Chief Joseph Fussner said in a release. “The dedication and ability to stay calm in an extraordinary situation speaks volumes of Patrolman Ballin and Sgt. Franco Jr.”

The Ventnor Fire Department ambulance crew transported mother and child were transported to a local hospital.
