The annual Kenny Wayland Memorial Run will be held Sunday, May 28 in Ventnor.

VENTNOR – The Ventnor City Firefighters FMBA Local 38 will hold its 23rd annual Kenny Wayland Memorial Run and Fun Walk 9 a.m. Sunday, May 28 on the Ventnor boardwalk.

The event honors Firefighter Kenny Wayland, 35, who lost his life battling a highrise fire, Dec. 15, 1972. With no way out after searching for an occupant, Wayland had no alternative but to jump. He died five days later as a result of his injuries..

The out-and-back course starts at the Ventnor Community Building, 6500 Atlantic Ave., where participants can pick up their race packets. An awards ceremony will be held in the same location after the race.

Registration is $25 by May 26, $30 on race day. T-shirts will be provided while supplies last. Registration packets can also be picked up 6-7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 27 at the Community Building.

Proceeds of the event support the Kenneth Weyland Memorial Scholarship Fund.
