DOWNBEACH – About 300 riders donned yellow T-shirts on a beautiful Sunday morning to ride on the boardwalk and through city streets on Absecon Island in honor of one of the founders of LeTour de Downbeach, and to raise money for a worthy cause.

LeTour de Downbeach is an annual collaboration between the Margate and Ventnor business associations. This year’s ride was held in honor of Ann Marie Wiesen, who passed away last November. Wiesen and her husband Michael, owner of AAAA Bike Shop in Ventnor, were instrumental in founding the bike tour of Absecon Island.

A portion of the proceeds of the event will benefit St. Jude’s Hospital, one of Ann Marie’s favorite charities.

Officials who attended the event include Ventnor Mayor Lance Landgraf, Commissioner Tim Kriebel and Margate Mayor Michael Collins and Commissioners Maury Blumberg and Cathy Horn.

The day started out with Jackie Fox Fitness providing a pre-ride stretching class. Margate Dairy Bar and Burger and Wawa provided complementary water for the riders and Casel’s Market provide the food.

The day ended with a scrumptuous barbeque held at Tomatoe’s in Margate.
