Provided/Ventnor City FMBA Local 38

The Ventnor Firefighters FMBA Local 38 Sunday, May 28, sponsored its 23rd annual Kenny Wayland Memorial Scholarship Run.

The 5K and 10K run along with a 1-mile fun walk held on the Ventnor boardwalk is dedicated to the memory of Firefighter Kenny Wayland, who on Dec. 20, 1972, lost his life in the line of duty fighting a high-rise fire.

All proceeds from the event provide funding for the FMBA Scholarship Program. Ventnor high school seniors who are accepted to an accredited college are eligible to apply. Students are selected annually based on financial need, grades and community service. Scholarship money is deposited directly to the selected student’s college account to be used exclusively for education related expenses.

This year’s scholarship recipients are Jackson Barrie, Dory Hargadon, Cece Marota, Rosie Miltenberger and Mackenzie Morgan.

To date, more than $95,000 has been awarded to more than 90 Ventnor City students in memory of Firefighter Wayland.
