Lucy the Elephant after her $2.4 million makeover.

MARGATE – After the COVID 19 pandemic and 15 months of extensive restoration, Lucy the Elephant, the city’s famous National Historic Landmark and Americas Oldest Roadside Attraction, is ready to celebrate her 142nd birthday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, July 22.

It was a very long and very costly 15 months to complete Lucys exterior restoration, Lucy Executive Director Richard Helfant said in a release. We are excited to show off how amazing Lucy looks as we celebrate another milestone in her storied life.

Mackie, The Stilt Walker, will once again be on hand welcoming guests with other returning favorites including a giant water slide, nine-hole mini-golf course, and the Lucy Express,” a trackless train that traces the steps Lucy took in 1970 when she was moved from Cedar Grove Avenue to her current home on Lucy Plaza.

Added this year are some new features to Lucys annual birthday bash, including a high striker, money booth and a wet obstacle course. There will be plenty of food, including Lennys Hot Dogs,” funnel cake, snow cones, Philly pretzels and thirst-quenching refreshments. No birthday party would be complete without singing Happy Birthday” to Dear Lucy before enjoying a piece of birthday cake at 3 p.m..

Commemorative T-shirts featuring Lucy with her multi-million dollar makeover will be available for purchase at $20. 

Aunt Evelyn,author of Lucys official bedtime story, Lucy the Elephant and Sami the Mouse,will be on hand from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to autograph her book. Tours inside the worlds largest elephant will be available all day long.

Lucy is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sundays through Labor Day. Tours through Lucys interior are offered every 45 minutes with the first tour beginning at 10:15 a.m.
