Youngsters display their beautifuly painted faces during Law Day event held at the Margate Library Park.

Margate City Police held their annual Law Day event Wednesday, Aug. 9 in Margate Library Park.

Families flocked to the park to meet members of the police department, along with Atlantic County Prosecutor William Reynolds and members of his staff, and Atlantic County Sheriff Eric Scheffler and his staff.

Children lined up to get their faces painted, played with a Sheriff’s Office K-9 bloodhound and a shelter dog from the Atlantic County Humane Society, and played a ball drop game similiar to the popular TV show “The Wall” for prizes.

Margate Police Sgt. Jessica Fane displayed one of the department’s new patrol bicycles and distributed free helmets to those who need them. Other officers were available to register bicycles and provided parents with information about how to properly secure infants in their carseats. Soft pretzels and water ice were available for those who gathered under the big tent.

Mayor Michael Collins, Commissioner of Public Safety Cathy Horn and Police Chief Matthew Hankinson mingled with guests, including Assemblywoman Claire Swift and other candidates running for public office in the November election.

Hankinson said the event is always well attended and a great way to connect residents with the public safety resources available not only in Margate but throughout Atlantic County.
