LONGPORT – The Police Department today issued a press release about an officer involved shooting at a local a residence in the borough. No one was struck or injured during the incident, Police Chief Frank Culmone said.
At approximately 11:42 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, Longport Police officers responded to a residence in response to a welfare check on an individual who had not been heard from in several days. In the course of the response, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The details involving the shooting have not been determined at this time.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office will conduct a thorough and impartial review of the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The Longport Police Department is fully cooperating with the prosecutor’s office during this process, Culmone said.
“The safety and well-being of our community are our top priorities,” Culmone said. “We are committed to transparency and accountability in all police matters. We understand the concerns this incident may raise and assure the public that a comprehensive investigation is underway.”
Culmone also emphasized that additional details will be provided to the public at the conclusion of the investigation. This ensures that all facts are gathered, and the community receives accurate and complete information.
