Amherst Avenue in Longport between 36th Avenue and the Margate border at Coolidge Avenue.

LONGPORT – The borough’s engineering firm is advising residents that starting Wednesday, Jan. 10, Think Pavers Construction Company will begin work on a raised crosswalk on Amherst Avenue between 34th and 35th avenues.

The work will take two weeks to complete the raised crosswalk, which acts like a speed bump, and will be a traffic calming measure to improve driver and pedestrian safety at the bayfront entrance to Longport.

Residents are advised to avoid parking on Amherst Avenue from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Jan. 10 and Jan. 24, or until the work is completed and the traffic detour signs are removed.

For those who live within the work zone, the engineer advises residents to remove vehicles from their driveways before 8 a.m. Trash and recycling pick up will remain uninterrupted.

During the project, traffic may be detoured southbound on Amherst Avenue at 36th Avenue and northbound on Amherst Avenue at 34th Avenue.
