MAYS LANDING – An Atlantic City Police officer was charged Tuesday, Jan. 16, with third-degree theft for allegedly spending a large sum of money that was mistakenly deposited into his bank account.

According to a release from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, LaQuay DuBose, 37, of Atlantic City, spent $35,000 of $100,000 that bank employees mistakenly deposited into his checking account on March 21, 2023. Bank personnel realized the error and on March 27, 2023, withdrew the money and closed DuBose’s account. Over that six-day period, DuBose spent more than $35,000, causing the account to become overdrawn by $35,903.17. He has since been suspended without pay.
