VENTNOR – An 81-year-old Ventnor man died Friday evening after being hit by a vehicle while he was walking along the 5200-block of Wellington Avenue in front of Ventnor Plaza shopping center.

According to a release from Ventnor City Police Chief Joe Fussner, Vincent Carulli, 81, of Ventnor was struck in the eastbound lane of Wellington Avenue by a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria being driven eastbound by Frank Gitto III, 64, also of Ventnor. The accident occurred at 6:25 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9.

According to the preliminary investigation, Carulli did not use the designated crosswalk when he crossed Wellington Avenue just east of Little Rock Avenue. He was walking eastbound on Wellington Avenue when he was struck.

Carulli was transported to Atlantic City Medical Center in Atlantic City, where he later died.

The Ventnor City Fire Department, AtlantiCare Paramedics, Atlantic City Police Department, Ventnor Office of Emergency Management and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office assisted at the scene.

The road was closed for more than three hours.

Charges are pending investigation.
