AtlantiCare Medical Center Atlantic City.

ATLANTIC CITY – AtlantiCare recently announced that it ranks number one in New Jersey for Coronary Intervention Procedure, according to new research released by Healthgrades, the leading resource consumers use to find a hospital or doctor.

The achievement is one of 13 special recognitions that AtlantiCare’s cardiac services have received in the past year from Healthgrades, including being named one of America’s 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Care, and among the top 10% in the nation for overall cardiac services.

“We are honored to be recognized for our cardiac services. This distinction by Healthgrades underscores our commitment to delivering exceptional care,” President and CEO Michael J. Charlton said in a release. “We continuously strive to innovate, ensuring that our patients and community receive the best possible outcomes. Our team’s dedication to excellence is the cornerstone of our success, and this accolade is a testament to their hard work and the trust our community places in us.”

“Attaining this prestigious award is an honor which reflects a total commitment from the entire Cardiac Catheterization Team,” said Dr. Jeffrey Van Hook, of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.  “AtlantiCare has an extensive quality review process to ensure that our patients receive only the highest quality care. We utilize the American College of Cardiology Appropriate Use Criteria which allows us to ensure that the procedures performed here are based on sound scientific research. We also ensure that all patients who undergo this procedure are eligible to participate in our Comprehensive Cardiac Rehabilitation Program.”

Healthgrades evaluates hospitals solely on what matters most – patient outcomes – to determine the top-performing hospitals for specialty care in each of the 32 states assessed.

Its 2024 analysis revealed that patients who seek care at a hospital with rankings in their condition or procedure have a better chance of a good outcome than if they are treated at a facility that is not first in New Jersey. This widening performance gap highlights the importance of selecting a top-rated program. In fact, from 2020 to 2022, patients treated at hospitals that received a state ranking for cardiac surgery specialty excellence had, on average, a 56.4% lower risk of dying than if they were treated at hospitals that were not state ranked for these services.

“Healthgrades is proud to recognize AtlantiCare as the top facility in New Jersey for Coronary Intervention Procedure,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer and dead of Data Science at Healthgrades. “Hospitals with a #1 ranking in their state deliver consistently superior outcomes for the patients in their community. Consumers should feel confident knowing that they have access to top-ranked cardiac care at AtlantiCare.”

“Patients have a choice in where they receive their cardiac care and we are proud to be recognized for offering our community the finest Coronary Intervention Care in New Jersey,” Van Hook said.
