The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management has announced that in response to requests from Tribal Nations and stakeholders, it is extending the public comment period for its Draft Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement until 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on March 13.

On Jan. 8, 2024, BOEM announced in a release the availability of the Draft PEIS for potential development of six wind lease areas offshore New York and New Jersey in an area known as the New York Bight. On Jan. 12, BOEM opened a 45-day public comment period that was to end on Feb. 26.

To date, BOEM has held three in-person and two virtual open meetings to receive public comment. An in-person meeting was held Feb. 8 in Toms River, and the virtual meetings were held Jan. 31 and Feb. 13.
