Memories in Margate

MARGATE – The iconic nightclub Memories in Margate on Amherst Avenue is changing hands to a group of local investors. Philadelphia restaurateur and nightlife impresario Teddy Sourias of Craft Concepts Group will operate Memories with two silent partners. Memories closed in September 2022 and was up for sale since Blavat died last year.

Memories is best known for its weekly DJ dance parties. Sourias will honor the Geator’s memory with a redesigned and renovated Memories. It will re-open before the unofficial start of summer on Memorial Day Weekend.

The executors of Blavat’s estate, David Raezer, AJ Mattia, and Katherine B. Furia, said they vetted more than 100 applicants interested in taking over the property.

“We are happy that Memories will continue its legacy in Margate under the guidance of Teddy and his team,” they said in a statement. “Speculations about the fate of the property have been going on for some time, but we find peace in its reopening as a venue destined to create fresh memories. Teddy has a rich background in owning and managing top-tier clubs and restaurants in Philadelphia, instilling confidence that his team will excel in this new endeavor at the Jersey Shore.”

Blavat hosted many celebrities, athletes and stars, such as Frankie Avalon, Frankie Valli, Questlove and Jersey Boys, and hosted many events that made it a landmark, leaving a permanent footprint in Margate.

“Memories holds a special place at the Jersey Shore, and I’m privileged to collaborate with a remarkable team to steer it forward,” Sourias said. “In the upcoming weeks, we’ll unveil our vision and strategies for the business, as we know everyone is anticipating the return of Memories this summer. Jerry Blavat’s enduring spirit will be celebrated and honored in our future endeavors. This Margate institution will live on.”

Sourias and his team are currently looking for bar, club, security and administrative employees to support the business. Those interested can apply at memories@ccgphl.com. There will also be an email list signup available for those who want to be notified about news, events, and opening details. Look for it here.

Craft Concepts Group restaurants, bars and beer gardens include BRU Craft & Wurst, U-Bahn, Kontrol, Finn McCool’s Ale House, Uptown Beer Garden, Tradesman’s, White Elephant, 101 Speakeasy, Sueño, Tinsel holiday pop-up bar, and more to come.
