Longport announces surfing, kayaking and beach opening dates

LONGPORT – The Board of Commissioners has approved surfing and kayaking locations and beach opening dates for the summer season in Longport.

The borough will permit the launching and retrieval of kayaks on the following beaches during the summer months: between 14^th and 15^th avenues, 22^nd and 23 avenues, 27^th and 29^th avenues, and 32 and 33^rd avenues.

Surfing will be permitted at 12^th, 22^nd, 28^th and 32^nd avenues during the hours of 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Beaches will be guarded 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. starting June 1 at 16^th, 26^th, 30^th, 33^rd avenues; starting June 8 at 19^th, 31^st, and 35^th avenues; starting June 15 at 13^th, 21^st, Pelham, and 34^th avenues; and starting June 22 at 25^th Avenue.

One the weekends of May 25 and Sept. 21, beaches at 16^th, 26^th, 30^th and 33^rd avenues will be opened weather dependent at the discretion of the chief.

Bathers are advised to only swim when lifeguards are present.
