ATLANTIC CITY – Future home buyers can tour more than 20 properties at various prices in the Chelsea area during the Chelsea Economic Development Corporation’s first-ever Neighborhood-wide Open House 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16. The list of homes, including a map of the properties color coded by price range, can be found at www.Chelsea-EDC.org. New single-family homes and condominiums are being added to the list daily.
Chelsea EDC, a newly formed non-profit organization focused on expanding economic opportunity and improving quality of life in the Chelsea neighborhood of Atlantic City, is collaborating with local Realtors and major neighborhood institutions, such as Stockton University, South Jersey Gas, AtlantiCare and ACDevco, on the event.
The goal of the open house tour is to change people’s perceptions by showing all that Chelsea has to offer, including attractive real estate deals. This past summer, employees at Stockton University, SJ Gas and AtlantiCare expressed interest in purchasing homes in the area and have been taking steps to learn about the housing choices in Chelsea.
The open house is designed to encourage home buying for those who work in the Atlantic City area. The program also seeks to transform renters into homeowners, a strategy that can provide neighborhood stability and wealth for residents.
“Supporting the communities where we live and work has always been a priority for South Jersey Gas,” said Dave Robbins, president of South Jersey Gas. “Now, with hundreds of employees working in Atlantic City, we have the opportunity to take this a step further – educating them on the wonderful opportunities available for homeowners in the city and the positive economic impact they can have by joining this growing neighborhood.”
ACDevco President Chris Paladino is witnessing how an increased population and home ownership is changing New Brunswick into a safer community with new restaurants and cultural amenities, including Devco’s new $200 million Performing Arts Center.
“We support the efforts by the Chelsea EDC, which will continue to spark energy and excitement into the Chelsea neighborhood by leveraging ACDevco’s Gateway project opened in 2018,” Paladino said.
During the open house event, Chelsea EDC will provide information regarding down payment assistance and first-time home buyer programs that can help home buyers qualify for the home they want and could even make home ownership less costly than renting. The Chelsea EDC will share information about a $10,000 grant from New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency for buyers with income levels up to $140,000 per household, and an Atlantic County home buyer program that can provide as much as $30,000 in the form of a loan with no repayment until the home is sold.
Printed maps and refreshments will be available in the parking lot at 3701 Boardwalk (Hartford Avenue and the beach) starting at 10:30 a.m. Participants may independently visit any or all of the open houses.
Those who work in Atlantic City are encouraged to ask their employers to gather a group of employees and provide jitney transportation to tour the homes.
Over the winter months, the Chelsea EDC will be leading a community planning effort, which is required to apply for grant funding for projects in the neighborhood.
