NORTHFIELD – To help meet the growing need for food during the COVID-19 pandemic, Beth Israel Sisterhood has donated $1,000 to the Jewish Family Service Emergency Food Pantry.
Based in Margate, the JFS food pantry offers hearty meal options to Atlantic County individuals and families, including home bound seniors on fixed incomes, adults with disabilities, young families with limited income and others facing temporary crises. Donations are needed to meet the growing demand during the coronavirus pandemic which has put many local residents out of work.
Founded in 1890, the Beth Israel Sisterhood has served as the backbone of the congregation, sponsoring programs to encourage congregants to intensify their connection with Judaism, and fundraising for the synagogue and the community. Five generations of Beth Israel women have served the congregation and the community, including the current membership which reached out when it learned that the food pantry was in need.
