Fall Funfest by the Bay

MARGATE – Residents and weekend visitors to the Jersey Shore have a lot to look forward to this weekend with the Margate Business Association’s 18th annual Fall Funfest By The Bay, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 22-23. Funfest will be held 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The fun continues Saturday evening for adults only with Funfest After Dark.

The funfest brings fresh and exciting family friendly venues to the Amherst Avenue bayfront.  Thousands of visitors attend the bayside festival to enjoy more than 125 booths and activities, celebrate fall, enjoy bayfront views and the friendly spirit of Margate.

Funfest is loaded with new entertainment and activities including music, games, back-bay nature tours and educational exhibits. Vendors from throughout the region will be offering savory food and unique crafts. The area’s bars and restaurants will be alive with visitors.

A dozen musical bands will be featured on the main stage, playing everything from rock to reggae. Visitors will also enjoy Steve and Cookie’s Annual Dog Show, special guests and new and exciting activities and amusements. These are just some of the many highlights visitors can expect to find along Amherst Avenue, between Decatur and Coolidge Avenues.

Ray Scott’s Dock “Wetland Wonderland” will be hosting a myriad of activities including the Marine Mammal Stranding Center exhibit, wildlife artists, turtle release, DJ Crazy and Flippy the Flounder, Turtles Singer songs and facts about turtles and back-bay eco kayak tours (reservations are suggested and there is an admission fee). A featured entertainer this year on the 95.1 WAYV Kid’s Stage will be Magician Joe Holiday, performing his jaw-dropping show with comedy, audience participation and magic.  Crafts from more than 67 juried artisans offering a wide variety of handmade items including wood designs, pottery, fall décor, artisan culinary products and unique jewelry.  Other attractions will include special guests Phillie Phanatic, Miss New Jersey Jaime Gialloreto. There will be a character’s parade with autographs and pictures with Cinderella, Batman, Mr. Incredible, Buzz Lightyear and Captain America. Princess, Inc. presents The Jubilee Jumpers, “Jumping At The Shore” double Dutch.  Guests can watch amazing jump rope performance and even try their skills at double Dutch. All of this will be in addition to children’s gymnastics and yoga demonstrations, games, giveaways and more.

The fun continues for adults only with Funfest After Dark 8-11 p.m. on Saturday, with live music by Mas Tequila Orchestra, dancing, wine and spirits tasting. Tickets for the tasting are $25 and are on sale at the event. A portion of the proceeds benefits the Margate Business Association and the Food Bank of New Jersey Southern Branch.
