Timothy Friel is sworn in as a Margate firefighter Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018.

MARGATE – The Margate Fire Department swore in a new firefighter Thursday, Sept. 20 at the Board of Commissioners meeting.

Timothy Friel was hired through the Civil Service system and replaces a firefighter who retired. He grew up in Linwood, attended Mainland Regional High School and has a bachelor’s degree from Stockton University. He is a former employee in the Atlantic City schools and was a lifeguard in Brigantine for several years, which will serve him well in his job as an emergency medical technician, Commissioner of Public Safety John Amodeo said. Friel has lived in Margate for 10 years.

Amodeo administered the oath of office, while Friel’s family members stood by.

“It is a great day in Margate whenever we are able to appoint a new firefighter to the ranks because of the work they do,” Amodeo said.
