Downbeach Memorial Days services are scheduled for the morning of May 27 and are timed so those who died for freedom can be honored in all three communities, starting in Ventnor and ending in Longport.

VENTNOR

A service will be held 9:15 a.m. Monday, May 27 on the Ventnor Fishing Pier to honor those lost at sea. A second service will be held at 9:45 a.m. at the monument at Ventnor City Hall, 6201 Atlantic Ave.

The Greater Absecon Island Russel T. Smith VFW Post at 601 N. Dorset Ave. will also hold an open house starting at 11 a.m. Light refreshments will be served.

MARGATE

The Margate Mothers Association will hold its annual Memorial Day Parade 10 a.m. Monday, May 27. The parade will line up at the Margate Municipal Building, 9001 Winchester Ave. (old Union Avenue school) and proceed to Atlantic Avenue where it will travel north to the park, where a service will be held. Children are encouraged to decorate their bicycles and wagons in patriotic style. Prizes and refreshments afterward at the Margate Log Cabin on Jerome Avenue.

LONGPORT

American Legion Post 469, the Longport Police Department, Fire Department and Beach Patrol are hosting the borough’s annual Memorial Day Parade and Service, beginning at 11 a.m., Monday, May 27.

The parade lineup is at Atlantic and 33rd avenues, with the parade route traveling west along Atlantic Avenue to 26th Avenue where it will then head north toward the bay.

A ceremony will be held at the gazebo at 27th and Oberon avenues.
