Champ is looking for his forever home.

PLEASANTVILLE – Looking for a new pet? Consider adopting a dog or cat from the Atlantic County Animal Shelter Aug. 17-18 when all adoption fees will be waived for a variety of selected pets that are available for immediate adoptionduring Clear the Shelter Weekend, part of a regional “Clear the Shelters” event.

“We invite the public to stop by our shelter at 240 Old Turnpike Road in Pleasantville 1-4 p.m. to meet the wonderful animals in our care that are anxious to find forever homes,” shelter manager Kathy Kelsey said.

The Atlantic County Animal Shelter offers canines and felines of all ages, sizes and temperaments. On occasion pure bred dogs and cats also become available for adoption.

This is the fifth year the Atlantic County Animal Shelter is participating in this event which has resulted in more than 400 successful adoptions from its facility since its initial participation.

“This is a perfect opportunity for anyone who may be interested in adopting a pet,” Atlantic County Executive Dennis Levinson said. “The significant savings should serve as an attractive incentive.”

Regular adoption fees at the shelter range from $85 for cats and kittens to $110 for dogs and puppies. Those fees include mandatory sterilization, age appropriate vaccinations, diagnostic testing, a microchip and free veterinary consultation. Canines adopted from the shelter are also provided free obedience classes.

The Atlantic County Animal Shelter is one of several area animal shelters taking part in #CleartheShelters Day, an initiative by NBC-owned stations to help cats and dogs waiting for new homes to be successfully adopted. The ultimate goal of the event is to help as many animals as possible find their perfect match.
