In recognition of National Voter Registration Day Tuesday, Sept. 24, Atlantic County Superintendent of Elections and Commissioner of Registration Maureen Bugdon is encouraging youths aged 17 and older to register to vote in an outreach initiative for Atlantic County public high schools.

Informational flyers and voter registration forms will be distributed to students with the cooperation of the office of the Atlantic County superintendent of schools. County election officials and representatives of the League of Women Voters will be available to provide additional assistance upon request.

“We are pleased to assist in promoting voter registration among our youth,” said Executive County Superintendent of Schools Robert Bumpus.

The offices of the Superintendent of Elections will provide extended hours in observance of National Voter Registration Day and will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 1333 Atlantic Ave., Atlantic City and at 5920 Main Street in Mays Landing.

“In addition to encouraging young voters to register to exercise their right to vote, this is also an opportunity for individuals of all ages to register,”  Budgon said. “Enfranchising voters through voter outreach and education is incredibly important. Your vote really is your voice, and it can’t be heard unless you take the essential step of registering. Through outreach events like this, we try to make that step simple, efficient and fun.”
