America Recycles Day is Nov. 15.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – The Atlantic County Utilities Authority is offering up to $1,000 in grant money to one Atlantic County school to help improve its recycling program. ACUA created the grant in place of the Recycle-Bowl, which was discontinued this year by Keep America Beautiful.

“Strong recycling programs help schools decrease their environmental impact and encourage students to understand their role in protecting the environment,” ACUA President Rick Dovey said. “Our grant will give schools the opportunity to enhance their recycling program.”

The grant funding can be used to purchase containers for recycling collection, educate students about the importance of recycling, provide signage or accomplish other creative ideas. Applicants should explain how their idea will motivate students and staff to recycle and improve the quality and quantity of material collected.

The deadline to submit an application is Nov. 4.  Only schools located in Atlantic County that are serviced by ACUA are eligible. The project must be related to recycling in the school and include a clear timeline for completion.
