MARGATE – On Tuesday Jan, 21 at approximately 12:42 p.m. the Margate City Police Department received a 911 call in reference to an assault that occurred at a private residence. Officers along with members of the Margate City Fire Department’s ambulance crew and medics arrived at the residence and discovered the victim, Robert (Bobby) Woods, 70, bleeding and suffering from multiple injuries.

The Margate City Fire Department ambulance along with medics transported Woods Sr. to Atlantic Care Regional Medical Center where he is still listed in critical condition.

A golf club covered in blood was recovered from the scene.

Later the same evening at approximately 7 p.m., officers on scene at the residence took Woods Sr.’s son, Robert T. Woods Jr., 45, also of Margate, into custody without incident.

He was charged with two counts of aggravated assault (one 2nd degree count and one 3rd degree count), one count of 3rd degree endangering an injured victim, one count of 3rd degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and one count of 3rd degree possession of a weapon. He was transported and lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

The case is being investigated by Margate City Police Officer Ryan Mazzeo, Sgt. Tom Kresz and Det. Erin Borrelli with the assistance of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit.
