Artwork of the students at the Eugene A. Tighe Middle School is currently displayed at the Longport Public Library.

LONGPORT – The Longport Public Library, 2305 Atlantic Ave., is currently featuring the artwork of students at the Eugene A. Tighe Middle School in the library’s art gallery.

The south wall of the library is covered with artwork of fifth and sixth graders that depict winter landscapes in oil pastels and bright watercolor snow scenes.

Future displays include artwork of second graders at the William H. Ross Elementary School, March through April.

The exhibits are part of the new relationship between the library and the Margate schools where Longport students are educated.

“The library is very similar to a school in that we both look to educate our kids through culture,” library Director Ricky Gerhardt said. “We are very pleased with this partnership because it helps both our missions and gives the kids an opportunity to display their work in a public space.”

Following student exhibitions, the library will display the artwork of local residents through the rest of 2020, from photography to charcoals, Gerhardt said.

Library hours are posted at longportpubliclibrary.org. Learn more on the library’s Facebook page or call 609-487-7403.
