Ventnor Mayor Beth Holtzman and her grandson Enzo display their message of hope after crafting a rainbow and posting it in their front window of their Ventnor Heights home.

Three mothers of young children, Jennifer Langner, Steph Polinski and Stacy Bew McCarron, started the Ventnor Rainbow Trail Facebook page on March 20, and it already has 791 members. As word spread about the project into adjacent communities, page administrators changed the name to Downbeach / Ventnor Rainbow Trail.

Now rainbows are popping up all over the Downbeach area to offer a ray of hope during the state’s stay-at-home executive order.

The project is a way to keep the community connected during the coronavirus pandemic. Although people are required to keep a safe social distance, families and children forced indoors with the closing of school are being asked to design or color their own rainbows and post them in the front windows of their homes as a symbol of hope during what could be depressing times.

When they venture outdoors for exercise children and families are being encouraged to take photos of the rainbows they see and post them on the Downbeach / Ventnor Rainbow Trail Facebook page.

In Ventnor, the rainbows are getting an extra message – Ventnor Strong – recalling the days when the community pulled together following the devastation of Hurricane Sandy.
