GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP – The William J. Hughes Center for Public Policy at Stockton University will sponsor an online debate among Democratic primary House candidates in the 2nd Congressional District 6 p.m. June 25.

Candidates Will Cunningham, Brigid Harrison and Amy Kennedy will debate for one hour. The debate will be held on Zoom and live-streamed on YouTube. Links to view the debate will be available the day of the debate on the Hughes Center website at stockton.edu/hughes-center.

John Froonjian, executive director of the Hughes Center, will moderate the event.

“This debate will give voters in South Jersey the chance to evaluate the Democratic candidates in one of the most closely watched House races in the nation,” Froonjian said.

The standard for inclusion in the debate was that candidates had raised and spent the minimum amount required for them to file a first-quarter campaign finance report with Federal Election Commission. Candidates John Francis and Robert Turkavage did not file FEC reports.

New Jersey’s primary election is July 7. The winner of that primary is expected to face Rep. Jeff Van Drew, an incumbent and former Democrat who switched to the Republican Party in December. Van Drew has a Republican primary opponent, Bob Patterson.

Hughes Center staff will determine the questions posed in the debate. Members of the public may suggest questions by emailing them to hughescenter@stockton.edu by midnight Sunday, June 21, using the word “Debate” in the subject line.  Questions will not be accepted or posed by the public during the forum.
