Work continues to replace an ACUA force main serving the Downbeach communities.
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – The Atlantic County Utilities Authority announced today that it will soon go out to bid for the second phase of a sewer main pipeline that carries wastewater from the Downbeach communities of Chelsea, Ventnor, Margate and Longport to its plant in Atlantic City.
The work comes after a sewer leak in a 30-inch force main was reported on Saturday, April 18 at the Bader Field site. To mitigate contamination of the Beach Thorofare, the ACUA hired an emergency outside contractor to install a temporary bypass system and contain the leak. The bypass became operational by April 30.
Work on a permanent force main pipeline replacement began at the end of May and is expected to be completed within a few months.
