MARGATE – The Board of Commissioners April 15 authorized which beaches will be guarded by the Margate City Beach Patrol this summer.

The beach will be open for the summer season from May 29 through Sept. 12. Beach tags will be required, except for Thrilling Thursdays, July 1, 8, 15, 22, 29 and Aug. 5, 12, 19 and 26. Barbeques will be allowed July 4-5 and Sept. 4-5.

The Beach Patrol will be on duty at the following locations:

  • Argyle Avenue – June 12 – Sept 6
  • Clermont Avenue – June 5 – July 12
  • Gladstone Avenue – June 19 – Sept. 6
  • Huntington Avenue – June 5 – Sept. 12
  • Jerome Avenue – June 5 – Sept. 6
  • Osborne Avenue June 5 – Sept. 6
  • Thurlow Avenue – June 5 – Sept. 12
  • Vendome Avenue – June 26 – Sept. 6
  • Cedar Grove Avenue – June 26 – Sept. 6
  • Washington Avenue – June 5 – Sept. 12
  • Jefferson Avenue – June 5 – Sept. 6
  • Madison Avenue – June 26 – Sept. 6

On the weekends of May 29 and Sept. 12 the beaches at Clermont, Huntigton, Thurlow and Washington avenues will be open pending good weather, and at the discretion of the chief.

Beaches will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Beach Patrols recommends swimming only at guarded beaches and advises against swimming after hours, when most of the drowning incidents occur.

The city also designated surfing, kayaking 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the following locations: Barclay to Clarendon avenues, Delavan to Essex avenues, Iroquois to Plymouth avenues, Kenyon to Nassau Avenues and Pembroke to Sumner avenues. Sailing is permitted at Barclay to Clarendon avenues, Iroquois to Plymouth avenues and Pembroke to Sumner avenues.

Beach tags are available at pre-season rates 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily At the Martin Bloom Pavilion, Granville Avenue at the beach, until May 31. Rates are $10 for anyone over age 12, $3.50 for seniors; beginning June 1 rates rise to $20 for all tags. Seasonal tags are available at no cost to active duty military and veterans with proper identification.

Tags can also be purchase in advance on a smart phone using the Viply app and picked up at the Bloom Pavilion or from any beach checker during summer hours. Americans with Disabilities Act crossovers are located at Jefferson, Osborne, Huntington, Andover and Exeter avenue. Surf chairs are located at Brunswick, Huntington, Knight, Thurlow, Madison and Decatur avenues. To reserve a chair, call 609-823-2370 or see any lifeguard on duty. Beachgoers needing assistance due to physical limitations can request transportation from street ends over the dune by calling 609-517-5245.

Handicapped accessible rest rooms are available at the Martin Bloom Pavilion and Ventura’s Greenhouse. Porta-potties are available at Brunswick, Huntington, Quincy, Benson and Madison avenues. And handicapped parking spaces are available at the Margate Public Library parking lot on Huntington Avenue, and Rumson and Coolidge avenues.
