The Margate City Police Department added a new officer to its ranks Thursday, Feb. 3 during the Board of Commissioners meeting.
Commissioner of Public Safety John Amodeo attended the meeting via teleconference, so Commissioner of Finance Maury Blumberg stepped in to administer the oath of office for Brendan Campbell, 29, of Margate. His parents, Dan and Colleen Campbell watched as their son was promoted from a Special Law Enforcement Officer II, the position he has held since last May, to a full-time officer assigned to the Patrol Division. Members of the Police Department attended the meeting to honor their new comrade.
“We hit a home run in hiring this fine young gentleman. He has some experience and still, he said yes. He is a triple-threat,” said Blumberg, who coached youth baseball for years. “He can pitch, and he can hit, and his parents can run.”
Amodeo congratulated Campbell and welcomed him to the department as a full-time officer.
“He has a great work ethic and will fit in well in our Police Department,” Amodeo said.
Police Chief Matthew Hankinson said the Margate City Police Department is currently in transition, and is replacing many of its retiring officers. Just this month, the department accepted the retirements of the police records clerk, a dispatcher in the Communications Department and an officer who’s been with the force for 40 years.
