Bernard Zapp, MD

VENTNOR – Bernard Zapp, MD, of Ventnor, a longtime member of the St. Leonard’s Association Board of Directors died Friday, Feb. 4. Zapp was an active member of the Ventnor Rowing Club and an avid supporter of many community causes. He always enjoyed meeting with friends at the former Derby Hall, the home he shared with his wife, Linda, which was once the home of Ventnor City Boat Works.

Bernard (aka Bob) Zapp, MD, 78 of Ventnor City, passed away at home with his beloved wife by his side on Feb 4, 2022 from COVID-19 complications. He was born April 24, 1943 in the Bronx of New York City.
He graduated from Hunter College and Downstate Medical School in New York. He went on to open his private practice as a gastroenterologist in Cherry Hill, where he raised his family retiring over 20 years ago.
Bernie leaves behind a great legacy of care and compassion for all that knew him. He served on many boards holding numerous positions throughout the years. Bernie was a supporter of many charitable causes in South Jersey including Gilda’s Club and the Jewish Community Center of Margate.
He was an avid rower and was always there when you needed hIm. Bernie had a great sense of humor and loved a good party. Surrounded by friends and music he hosted many. A true family and community man he will be sorely missed.
Survivors include his wife Linda Zapp; brother Carl Zapp of Long Beach, NY; son Alan Zapp of Ellensburg, WA; son Matt Zapp of Newark, DE; granddaughter Jordyn Zapp; stepson Eric Tillman of Ventnor; and stepdaughter Jessica Tillman. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ethel Zapp and father, Abraham Zapp; his twin brother, Stephen Zapp; and his sister, Susan Samuels.
There will be a private memorial held by the family. In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to your favorite charity in Bernie’s honor.
