COVID-19 testing available at The Atlantic County Public Works Yard in Northfield.

NORTHFIELD – With the deline of COVID-19 cases being reported in Atlantic County, the free COVID-19 test site at 421 Chris Gaupp Dr. in Galloway Township will be closing on Saturday, March 19. The site had been operating seven days a week as a collaborative effort between Atlantic County and Stockton University with federal and state funding.

The county and Stockton had also operated another free test site at the Carnegie Center in Atlantic City that closed on March 11.

According to Atlantic County Acting Public Health Director Kara Janson, the demand for testing at these sites has been very limited over the past several weeks which she attributes to a decrease in new COVID-19 cases, the lifting of many testing requirements and the availability of community testing and at-home test kits.

Janson also noted that the current COVID-19 Activity Level in Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland counties is low.

On Monday, March 14, Atlantic County reported 13 COVID-19 positives among nine males ages 23-76, and four females ages 22-59. No deaths were reported.

“We hope this positive trend continues but we urge residents, especially those at higher risk for infection, to continue to take protective measures,” Janson said.

The county encourages residents to become vaccinated to protect against COVID-19. The free vaccination and booster clinics will be available 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays in Northfield at 201 S. Shore Road and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the first and third Tuesday of each month in Hammonton at 310 Bellevue Ave. Appointments are not necessary.

Both sites offer the Johnson & Johnson and Moderna vaccines for residents 18 years and older as well as the Pfizer vaccine for adults and children ages 5 and older. Those seeking booster shots should bring proof of prior vaccinations.
