PLEASANTVILLE – Marine units from Margate and Longport Tuesday evening provided mutual aid assistance to the Pleasantville Fire Department and rescued two adults stranded in low water on their jet skis.

According to Longport Fire Chief Levon “Lefty” Clayton, the Pleasantville Fire Department requested mutual aid on the water after a call came in at 5:10 p.m. reporting two people stranded in the water.

Clayton said the Pleasantville crew couldn’t locate the jet skiers and called Longport for assistance.

Marine 3, a refurbished Coast Guard rescue boat put into service a few years ago, responded to Lakes Bay via the Intracoastal Waterway and an unnamed channel, and spotted the male jet skier standing on Whirlpool Island. However, due to the low tide, Marine 3 could not access the man and requested assistance from Margate, which also has a water rescue unit.

“We requested Margate’s unit because they have a smaller boat,” Clayton said.

At 6:06 p.m., Margate’s Marine 1 located the man and brought him to Longport’s boat, which transported the unidentified male to the Pleasantville shoreline.

The man reported that he and his daughter were riding their jet ski when it broke down and drifted with the heavy wind away from Pleasantville.

A Pleasantville firefighter spotted the woman on the marsh off Pleasantville. Again, the boats were unable to access the area, so Clayton requested additional support from the Longport Beach Patrol, which responded on a jet ski.

“They were able to pick up the female and bring her to Marine 3, which transported her to the Pleasantville Yacht Basin at 6:20 p.m.,” Clayton said.

Although she was a bit cold when she got into the boat, neither were injured, Clayton said.
