Rabbi Gordon Geller of Shirat Hayam Reform Congregation in Ventnor.

VENTNOR – To celebrate 25 years of educating the public, Shirat Hayam Synagogue is making its “Salute to Stockton” summer speaker series a yearlong event.

“We are particularly happy to carry on the tradition established by Rabbi Gordon Geller and the former Congregation Emeth Shalom as it evolves during its 25th year,” Shirat Hayam Reform Spiritual Leader Jacqueline Menaker said in a release.

This year’s series will offer “a quality array of inspiring and diverse educational programs,” she said.

On Nov. 12, the synagogue, which includes the now merged Conservative and Reform congregations, will celebrate Rabbi Geller as Rabbi Emeritus. Beverly Vaughn, of Stockton’s Oratorio Society, will present “Through It All” featuring African American spirituals, and songs of brotherhood, peace and hope.

On Jan. 21, 2023, Gail Rosenthal, director of the Sara & Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center at Stockton, will present the “Holocaust Survivors of South Jersey Project,” which features the life stories of South Jersey’s Holocaust survivors.

The program on March 11, 2023 features Adjunct Professor of Genocide Studies Steven Marcus, who will discuss “Jews on Film,” a topic he explores in great detail during his semester-long class at the university.

And on April 15, 2023, Assistant Professor of Jewish Studies will speak on “Women and Jewish Law.”

The programs begin at 7:30 p.m. following Havdalah services.
