MARGATE – The Board of Commissioners Dec. 1 renewed a contract for Acting Administrator and Management Consultant Richard Deaney and renewed several professional appointments for the coming year.

Deaney, who is a principal of Jersey Professional Management of Cranford, will work up to 500 hours during the year. The board approved a new one-year contract for Deaney, who will be paid $70,000 for 2023. His salary will be charged to several line items in the city budget, including $50,400 from financial administration professional fees, $12,600 from water and sewer financial administration, $5,600 from financial administration salary and wages, and $1,400 from water and sewer salary and wages.

Other professional appointments and not to exceed amounts are:

  • Hank N. Rovillard, special tax counsel, $25,000
  • Barker, Gelfan, James and Sarvas, PC, labor attorney, $21,000
  • Fleishmen-Daniels Law Offices, LLC, bond counsel, $30,000
  • Phoenix Advisors, LLC, financial advisor, $25,000
  • Cioeta Consultants, LLC, human resources services, $26,520

In other business, the board rejected for a second time all bids received for the roof replacement project at the Margate Public Library. The bids received on Aug. 25 were rejected and the city re-bid the project. The city subsequently received six base and alternate bids on Oct. 13, ranging from a low of $210,764 to a high of $453,110, but all of them exceeded the engineer’s estimate of the cost.
